When it comes to taste, these cheesy chicken dog treats are winners.
They're also packed full of healthy ingredients, including the sweet taste of natural applesauce and sharp cheddar cheese to add a little extra zing. This recipe makes everyone happy.
My two dogs have different tastes, but these super tasty cheese and chicken treats are on both of their 'all time favorites' dog treat lists!
This is a quick and easy recipe to whip up, especially if you have pre-cooked and shredded chicken on hand.
I always have bags with 1/2 cup of cooked, chopped/shredded, chicken breast in my freezer ready to go. These defrost FAST and save tons of time.
The ingredients in this simple recipe can be switched up a bit to allow for what you have available, and your dog's favorite flavors.
You can make this recipe using all whole wheat flour, or substitute 1/2 cup of oat flour for 1/2 cup of whole wheat.
Oat flour is one of my favorites so I use it in lots of recipes, it adds some extra nutrients and gives a slightly different texture.
If you want crunch, use whole wheat flour and, after turning off the oven, leave treats in there with the door cracked open for an hour or so.
Canned pumpkin works just fine as a 1:1 substitution for applesauce.
If you don't have bone broth in your larder/refrigerator, you can use bouillon, milk or water for the liquid.
Sometimes I throw in 1 tbsp of chopped parsley too.
